NJIT's Nowak, George Mason's Weltin earn EIVA weekly awards

For the second time this season, NJIT's Wiktor Nowak and George Mason's Aidan Weltin share the spotlight as the EIVA's Players of the Week. For their March 23 awards, the duo swap the offensive and defensive honors they received on Feb. 9.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Wiktor Nowak, So., OPP, NJIT
Wiktor delivered a stunning performance to help NJIT rally to a reverse-sweep victory at Princeton on March 21. The sophomore opposite pounded down 28 kills while hitting .571, adding an ace, two blocks and three digs in the 3-2 win. Nowak registered his kill total while making four errors on 42 swings. The rest of the Highlander offense combined for 23 kills on 59 swings, hitting .186, with none delivering more than six kills. He had seven kills in each of the third and fourth sets as NJIT rallied from down 2-0, then had three kills and an ace in the 15-7 final set win. The kill total was one short of his career high, which he delivered Feb. 6 – also against the Tigers. In the season’s two matches against Princeton Nowak totals 57 kills on .439 hitting with two aces, eight blocks and seven digs. Nowak is second in the EIVA in kills (3.85) and points (4.40) per set. Entering the weekend Nowak ranked 14th nationally in kills per set, 16th in points per set and 13th in attacks per set. This is the second EIVA weekly honor of Nowak’s season and career.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Aidan Weltin, So., PIN, George Mason
Aidan delivered another impressive performance as the Patriots swept their weekend of matches 3-0 at Sacred Heart, extending their win streak to four matches and victories in eight of their last nine. The sophomore pin hitter notched 17 kills with only one error to hit .593 in their first match on March 20, adding an assist and five digs. The following day he had 11 kills on .304 hitting with three aces, two blocks and seven digs. He totaled 28 kills on .460 hitting with three aces, one assist, two blocks and a dozen digs. Weltin has posted double digits in kills in nine of his last 10 matches and 15 times this season. In four matches over the past two weeks he had 61 kills on .407 hitting with nine aces, 29 digs and five blocks. Weltin leads the EIVA in kills (4.07) and points (4.72) per set, is second in aces (0.39), sixth in hitting (.265) and eighth in digs (1.68). Heading into the weekend Weltin led the nation in attacks per set (10.08) and ranked sixth in kills and points. This is the second EIVA weekly honor of the season and career for Weltin.
