Princeton’s Sam Shweisky was named the 2019 Bob Sweeney EIVA coach of the Year on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, by the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
In his 10th season guiding the Tigers, he saw his team post its best conference record in program history at 13-1 to earn the regular-season championship and the top seed for the EIVA Championships. Shweisky, who earned his 100 th career coaching victory early in the season, watched his team recover from an 0-5 start to the season, with seven of the first eight contests against ranked opponents at the time and all of them on the road. The Tigers beat two teams ranked in the AVCA’s top 15 this season, posted an 8-1 home record, earned 15 wins in as season for the first time since 2014 and carry a five-match win streak into the postseason.
This is Shweisky’s second EIVA Coach of the Year award.
Princeton (15-12, 13-1) will host the EIVA Championships in Dillon Gymnasium, meeting Saint Francis at 8 p.m. April 18 in one semifinal match, following No. 2 seed George Mason and No. 3 seed Penn State at 5 p.m. The winners advance to the finals at 7 p.m. April 20, with the tournament champion earning an automatic bid to the first round of the NCAA’s National Championship tournament.
