The EIVA (Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) named Princeton’s George Huhmann the 2019 Uvaldo Acosta Memorial Player of the Year on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
The junior ranks in the top five in seven EIVA statistical categories in helping the Tigers to the program’s first EIVA regular-season championship. The 2018 AVCA All-American ranks third in the conference in total kills (337), kills per set (3.37), hitting percentage (.348) and points (403); ranks fourth in total blocks (83) and points per set (4.10); and fifth in block assists (74) and total offensive attacks (653).
The versatile 6-foot-11 Huhmann is a three-time first-team All-EIVA selection, the 2017 EIVA Newcomer of the Year, and has played each front-row position this year. He also has been at his best late in the season, with 79 kills and just 10 errors to hit .479 with 19 blocks over the final five matches of the season.
Huhmann and Princeton (15-12, 13-1) host the EIVA Championships this week in Dillon Gymnasium. Second-seeded George Mason and third-seeded Penn State meet at 5 p.m. April 18, and the Tigers host No. 4 seed Saint Francis at 8 p.m. The winners advance to the finals at 7 p.m. April 20, with the tournament champion earning an automatic bid to the first round of the NCAA’s National Championship tournament.
