Emerson Waumans has been selected as the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week for April 15, 2019. Emerson was a force at the net in helping the Pioneers close their season with a pair of wins. Sacred Heart beat Charleston, W.Va., 3-1 and 3-0, and also fell 3-2 to NCAA Division III tournament top seed Springfield. Waumans for the week totaled 46 kills on .414 hitting with 14 blocks, nine digs and four aces. He started the week with 20 kills an d.472 hitting against the Pride, adding three blocks, three digs and an ace. In the first match against the Golden Eagles, he had 14 kills on .379 hitting with nine blocks, six digs and an ace. The next night he had 12 kills on .364 hitting, with two aces and two blocks, including a solo denial. This is the first EIVA weekly award of the season and career for the graduate student.
