Penn State’s Henrik Falck Lauten was named Tuesday, April 16, 2019, as the Newcomer of the Year by the EIVA (Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association).
Playing his first season of NCAA Division I volleyball, the native of Drammen, Norway, led the Nittany Lions in kills and points as Penn State finished tied for second place in the EIVA. The outside hitter had 236 kills – sixth in the EIVA – and averaged 2.65 kills per set. His 282 points are seventh in the conference, and he also posted 49 blocks, 131 digs and 18 aces.
Falck Lauten played two seasons of NAIA volleyball at Warner University in Florida in 2016 and 2017, earning AVCA honorable mention All-America honors, before taking a redshirt season last year.
The Nittany Lions, seeded third for the EIVA Championship tournament, meet George Mason at 5 p.m. April 18 in the conference semifinals at Princeton’s Dillon Gymnasium. Saint Francis faces Princeton in the second semifinal at 8 p.m., with the finals at 7 p.m. April 20. The tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the first round of the NCAA’s National Championship tournament.
