John delivered a pair of big-time performances in a pair of big-time wins for the No. 4 Nittany Lions at the First Point Collegiate Challenge in Austin, Texas. The senior opposite put down 35 kills on .338 hitting as Penn State scored 3-1 wins against then-No. 5 Pepperdine and then-No. 9 Stanford. Against the Waves on Jan. 20, he had 20 kills while hitting .421, and added five digs and three blocks. The next night he had 15 kills while hitting .250 with eight digs, two aces and a block. Kerr has hit at least 15 kills in three of the Nittany Lions’ six matches this season, averaging 4.11 kills per set while hitting .411, with his kills average leading the EIVA and ranking fifth nationally. This is Kerr’s first weekly EIVA award. Kerr added another honor Jan. 24, named the AVCA National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week.
