Princeton's Nyherwo Omene is the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week for Jan. 22, 2024. Nyherowo was instrumental in a pair of Tiger wins against ranked opponents on the West Coast. The junior pin knocked in 12 kills on .500 hitting with three aces and three blocks as No. 16 Princeton swept No. T-18 UC San Diego 3-0 on Jan. 16. He followed with 16 kills on .313 hitting with an ace, a block and three digs in the Tigers’ 3-2 win against No. T-18 Cal State Northridge. Omene played a role in Princeton’s final four points to lock up the win. Trailing 13-12 in the fifth set, Princeton got a kill from Omene and a block from Omene and Ryan Vena to take the lead. After the Matadors tied the set at 14-14, Omene posted his final kill for a second match point, then delivered a service ace. Omene ranks fourth in the EIVA in hitting (.374), and sixth in kills (2.95), aces (0.47) and points (3.58) per set. This is Omene’s first EIVA weekly award of the season and his career.
