Penn State's Toby Ezeonu is the EIVA's Defensive Player of the Week for March 13, 2023. Toby was a force at and above the net all weekend in Hawaii as No. 2 Penn State showed it belongs in the conversation for national title contenders. The junior middle blocker totaled 22 kills on .500 hitting while posting 10 blocks – five solo – a dig and an ace as the Nittany Lions lost 3-2 to No. 3 UCLA, handed No. 1 Hawaii its first loss of the season 3-1, and swept Purdue Fort Wayne 3-0. He had seven kills and four blocks against the Bruins, 10 kills and five blocks against the Rainbow Warriors, and five kills with one block against the Mastodons. Ezeonu continues to lead the nation with his .500 hitting, he has hit below .400 in only three matches this season, with the last Jan. 25.
