EIVA names Princeton's George Huhmann, NJIT's Luca Berger weekly award winners
After two marathon matches between their programs last week, Princeton's George Huhmann and NJIT's Luca Berger have been honored with weekly awards from the EIVA on March 11, 2019. Huhmann is the Offensive Player of the Week, and Berger is the Defensive Player of the Week. The Tigers won both matches 3-2, after holding off Highlander match points in both contests.

Offensive Player of the Week

George Huhmann, Jr., Opp, Princeton

George posted big numbers all over the court in a 2-1 week for the Tigers. Princeton won a pair of 3-2 matches against in-state rival NJIT, and fell 3-0 to No. 7 Lewis. The junior opposite had 18 kills, seven blocks and four aces in the first match against the Highlanders on Tuesday, and 13 kills, five digs and five blocks in the second contest on Friday. The next night against the Flyers, he had eight kills on .462 hitting, with four blocks and an ace. George’s three-match total showed 39 kills on .231 hitting, 16 blocks, six digs and five aces. This is his first EIVA weekly award of the season and seventh of his career.

Defensive Player of the Week

Luca Berger, Jr., MB, NJIT

Luca showed a strong presence at the net in the Highlanders’ two matches against Princeton. The junior posted eight kills, five aces and four blocks in the first match, and seven kills on .417 hitting with 10 blocks and a pair of aces in the Friday match. His two-match total saw 15 kills and just four errors to hit .440, adding seven aces, 14 blocks and three digs. This is the second EIVA weekly award of the season and career for the junior.
