Penn State Falls to Saint Francis (Pa.), 3-2

LORETTO, Pa. - The No. 13 Penn State men's volleyball team forced a fifth-set for the third-time in as many games before falling 3-2 (14-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 10-15) to Saint Francis (Pa.) Tuesday night at DeGol Arena.

Jalen Penrose led the Nittany Lions in kills racking up 13 on the night, hitting .226 adding a dig and two blocks on the defensive side.

Kevin Gear recorded a match high seven blocks helping Penn State finish with 13.0 team blocks on the night.

The Nittany Lions, for the third time in as many games, forced a fifth and deciding set after rallying back from a 2-0 deficit.

Unlike the last time out, Penn State (8-5, 3-1) wasn't able to finish the rally falling to Saint Francis (Pa.) for the third time in their last four matches against each other.

Penn State struck first in the fifth set on a Matt Callaway kill, but quickly fell behind as SFU raced out to a 5-2 lead forcing a Nittany Lion timeout.

Out of the timeout, SFU continued to pour it on extending the lead to 9-3 as Penn State called their second timeout.

Penn State came out of the timeout swinging as they got it to within four points trailing the Red Flash 12-8 as Saint Francis called a timeout.

Saint Francis rattled off a 3-2 run to take the set 15-10 and the match 3-2.

Penn State leads the all-time series 38-3 against the Red Flash.

Penn State returns to the court Friday, Feb. 17 as they host Harvard in EIVA play at Rec Hall with a match time slated for 7 p.m. ET.
