BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Santiago Restrepo is the final inductee to be showcased on EIVAVolleyball.com as we look back at the careers of all three of the 2015 Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Hall of Fame members.
Restrepo was a four-year men's volleyball student-athlete at East Stroudsburg University from 1983-86, being named to the All-EIVA First Team in each of his playing seasons. He helped guide the Warriors to a 92-20 record as a player under head coach and 2012 EIVA Hall of Fame Inductee, Bob Sweeney. During his senior campaign, Santiago earned All-America status as well as being named ESU's Co-Senior Male Athlete of the Year.
Restrepo would coach the women's volleyball team at ESU from 1995-97 and also was the head men's volleyball coach from 1995-98. While coaching the men's program, Santiago accumulated a 73-40 record which included winning the EIVA Division II Championship Title in his first year while appearing in the EIVA D-II Semifinals in his last two seasons with the Warriors.
Following ESU, Restrepo would go on to coach women's volleyball as an assistant at Saint Louis (1998-00). Santiago would then accept the head coaching position at Southern Mississippi for three years (2001-03) before landing at the University of Oklahoma in 2004 where he remains as the head coach today.
"It is a great professional as well as personal honor to welcome Santiago into our EIVA Hall of Fame," stated Executive Director and former Concordia (N.Y.) head coach Ivan Marquez. "A terrific coach with an impressive record, all the way from his 'humble' beginning at EIVA charter member, East Stroudsburg University, Santiago was one of the very first to welcome me and my Concordia program into this amazing, first class NCAA playing conference." Marquez continued to explain, "Throughout the years, Santiago became a wonderful friend enriching my life with many, many memorable moments and I wish him nothing but the very best. I could not be more proud of the contributions to our sport, our league, and our folks that Santiago Restrepo has generously given for a lifetime."
Since his time with the Sooners, Restrepo has been named a Big 12 and AVCA Regional Coach of the Year (2006) and has reached the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament in each of the last six seasons.
Santiago is also a 2004 ESU Hall of Fame inductee, the 2003 Conference USA Coach of the Year, and spent time playing in the American Volleyball Players Pro Beach Tour from 1987-91.
